Prayer for Labor Day

Dear God,
when you created Adam, you gave him the task
to tend the Garden of Eden.
Even in a perfect world before the fall,
you created humans to be fulfilled
when completing the work given to them.
When you came to us, you lived your life as a man.
You came as one
who learned a trade and earned his wage.
In doing so you taught us that all people
are made whole by meaningful work.
As we relax this Labor Day, let us never forget
that, though we love our leisure,
a life of work is nothing to escape or dread,
and that work well done
is work in imitation of your creative act.
Amen.

Farewell to Fr. Charles

Most of you know Fr. Charles will be leaving us shortly, he has been assigned to the Church of the Assumption in Richfield, Minnesota. Fr. Charles has been with our Parish a little over seven years, physically he will be gone, however, his spirit, love and memories will remain with us for a very long time. We will miss him, we wish him well, we pray our Lord will continue blessing him abundantly, and take him to his new destination safely, and in peace.

The Parish is planning a ‚ÄúDESPEDIDA‚Äù on Friday, August 6, at 7:00 pm in the corner patio behind the Mission. Join us at this gathering to bid farewell to our beloved Fr. Charles.

Despedida al Padre Charles

Muchos de ustedes saben, el Padre Charles se lo llevan a la Iglesia de la Asunci√≥n en Richfield Minnesota. Fr. Charles ha estado con nosotros pocito mas de siete a√±os, lo vamos extra√±ar mucho, pero nos deja su esp√≠ritu, su cari√±o, y muchos recuerdos. Le pedimos a nuestro Se√±or que lo bendiga y que lo lleve a su nueva Parroquia con salud y paz.

La Parroquia los invita a la Despedida del Padre, se lleva a cabo el viernes, 6 de agosto a las 7:00 pm en el patio atr√°s de la Misi√≥n.

Vida Concert at the Mission

Grupo Vida aka The Electric Cowboys are back to the Ysleta Mission for another great concert! Also performing that night InKietos Musikal featuring our own Alexis. Celebration for the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

The Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is Friday, July 16, 2010. The Novena continues throughThursday, July 15, at 5:30 pm in the Mission. On Friday, July 16, the Ma√±anitas will be at 5:30 am in the Main Church, coffee at 6:30 am in the Parish Hall, 7:00 am Mass in the main Church. Procession from the Mission to the main Church at 5:30 pm followed by Mass at 6:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Parish hall after 6:00 pm Mass. Everyone is welcome!

Celebraci√≥n del D√≠a de Nuestra Se√±ora del Carmen

La celebraci√≥n del D√≠a de la Virgen del Carmen es el Viernes 16, de Julio. La Novena a la Virgen del Carmen continua hasta el jueves 15 de julio, a las 5:30 pm en la Misi√≥n. El Viernes, 16 de Julio las ma√±anitas se llevan a cabo a las 5:30 am, despu√©s de las ma√±anitas, caf√© y pan en el sal√≥n de la Parroquia, Misa a las 7:00 am en la Iglesia principal. A las 5:30 pm es la procesi√≥n de la Misi√≥n a la Iglesia principal, sigue la Misa a las 6:00 pm. Todos quedan invitados a una recepci√≥n despu√©s de Misa en el sal√≥n de la Iglesia.

Open-Air Mass & Solidarity Procession

The public is invited to join in the Mass in Response to Border Violence and a Call to Immigration Reform. The Mass, which will be concelebrated by Bishop Armando Ochoa, of the Diocese of El Paso and Bishop Ricardo Ramirez, of the Diocese of Las Cruces will bring people of faith together to say no to violence, no to the loss of life, no to policies that turn neighbors into enemies, and say YES to comprehensive immigration reform.

2010 Ysleta Mission Festival

The Ysleta Mission Festival committee proudly announces the 2010 edition of the Ysleta Mission Festival.

This year’s headliner is from Houston‚Äôs east side and formed in 1984, Avizo has dedicated itself to keeping Tejano‚Äôs brassy, soulful sounds alive. Their versatility shows in their live sets of Tejano, R&B, tropical, and regional Mexican repertoire – a show that brings them an audience as diverse as their set list.

For years they have performed at traditional Tejano clubs as well as city-sponsored events and pre-game events for the Houston Texans and Astros organizations. Avizo is scheduled to perform at the Ysleta Mission Festival on Friday, July 9, 2010.

The Ysleta Mission Festival will also feature El Paso‚Äôs own Asi Band, Exito, Destiny, Azucar, Rhapsody, Souled Out Band, and others. The Festival will be on the grounds of the historic Ysleta Mission 131 S. Zaragosa Road.

Cultural Arts Market

The event focus is on providing the residents of El Paso, and tourists to the area, educational programs, and events that celebrate the rich and diverse cultural contributions of the Pueblo Indians, Spaniards, Mestizos, and others that are part of the Ysleta Mission history.

Those attending the Ysleta Mission Cultural Arts Market have the opportunity to participate in workshops presented by accomplished traditional artists; taste food made from recipes passed down through generations; listen to the traditional music of the times; view authentic dance performances; and purchase arts and crafts handmade by local and regional artists.

The history and sampling of traditional foods of the time such as; Indian bread, enchiladas, tamales, chili colorado, and aguas frescas will be available. Tours of the historical Ysleta Mission will also be conducted.

Novena to St. Anthony / Novena de San Antonio

The Novena for St. Anthony has begun and will continue through June 12, 2010 in the Mission, at 5:30 pm. The Feast of St Anthony will be on Sunday, June 13, 2010. Mass will be celebrated in the Mission at about 8:00 am.

Farewell to Fr. John Stowe

As many of you already know Fr. John Stowe has been reassigned to Carey, Ohio, he will be leaving El Paso this summer. The communities of Our Lady of the Valley, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, friends, and co-workers will bid him farewell at a Blessing and reception on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 6:00 pm in our Parish Hall.

Fr. John, we will miss you, we will continue praying for you, and our love for you will follow, God Bless you.
