Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast Day

People walked with the saint of Our Lady of Mount Carmel from the historic Ysleta Mission to the main church. Mass was celebrated in honor of our blessed Mother followed by a dinner in the parish hall. The OLMC matachines also danced in her honor.

The Feast Day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is July 16 when she appeared to Saint Simon Stock on July 16, 1251. He had a strong desire to join the Carmelite hermits who lived on Mt. Carmel, but they were forced to migrate to Europe due to Christian persecutions. Our Lady of Mount Carmel gave St. Simon the gift of the Brown Scapular, a sign of salvation, a safeguard in danger and a pledge of Mary’s special protection.
